A Beginner’s Guide to Death Wobble

If you own a Jeep, death wobble is a cursed rite of passage. If you’re a truck person, it’s a near-death experience you’ll never shut up about. Either way relax. Let’s break it down.

WHAT IS DEATH WOBBLE?

A violent steering shake caused by:

  • Parts moving when they shouldn’t

  • Parts moving the wrong direction

  • Broken or worn components

  • Improper alignment

HOW DO I FIX IT?

“Find what’s loose and fix it” sounds simple but a clear diagnosis matters. If you’re not confident, take it to a trusted mechanic.

Checklist:

  1. Ball joints

  2. Wheel bearings

  3. Track bar bushings / ends

  4. Track bar mounts

  5. Tie rod & drag link ends

  6. Alignment (especially caster)

  7. Wheels & tires
